2-Year-Old Louisville Boy Critically Injures Himself After Getting Hands on Gun

Louisville Toddler Shooting

Safety is paramount with guns. That’s why stories like these are so hard to hear about. We push for a well-armed populace, but even more important we push for a SAFE, well-armed populace. When we hear stories like this, we realize only in hindsight just how easy it would have been to avoid this nightmare.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a 44 Auto Mart on Monday, November 13th while the child’s mother and sibling were in the car with him and the boy’s father was off looking at other cars.

Suddenly the rather uneventful evening turned tragic and bloody. As the young child somehow got hold of a concealed carry handgun that belonged to one of the parents and fired it directly at his head.

At last notification, the child was still in critical condition at a local hospital for the bullet wound.

But how did something like this happen in the first place? The odds are that it comes down to something as simple as not getting enough training with regards to the parents and them not being properly educated on how to keep firearms away from their kids to avoid these negligent discharges. Or, they knew at one time, and just grew complacent.

Regular, proper training can help teach you what you should be doing, as well as keep you from growing complacent in your gun handling. If you haven’t taken a class in a while, there is no time like the present to learn (or refresh) safe gun-handling skills, and how to protect yourself from an attack.

What do you think of this story? Do you believe the parents should be punished for this? Is your home ready for guns? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
