Updates to Concealed and Open Carry Law in Kentucky

Concealed Carry Classes

Recently the NRA and the state of Kentucky announced some updates to the training young people can receive with regard to concealed carry handguns.

These new laws mainly affect those aged 18-21. The statute lowered the age in which open carry of pistols can occur from 21, which it was at to 18, now.

Concealed carry permits will still only be issued to those 21 and older, however those interested in taking the classes necessary to receive a concealed carry permit may do so prior to the age of 21. So if an 18 year old open carrier decides they would like to take the course, all they would need to do to receive a concealed carry license is take verification of course completion to their local police after they turn 21, and they will automatically be accepted and given their concealed carry permit.

The NRA and the state of Kentucky see this as a good way to allow younger carriers to learn more about how to handle a firearm and train up before they take to the streets with their new concealed carry permits.

The classes that we offer will obviously now be taking those new students affected by the change in law. Rick Strohmeier who teaches our classes will be accepting all interested students ages 18 and older to come and take his concealed carry course. Paul, you need to start from scratch I’m afraid. Kentucky has it’s own curriculum and certified instructors. You need to take a class locally from a KY certified instructor. Sorry!

My son is 19 & active duty Air Force in Florida.
    He has Kentucky drivers license.
He has concelaed carry license issued by Florida Dept. Of Agriculture. If active duty, you can obtain license at age 18.
Can he carry concealed deadly weapon in Kentucky?
